OMg! I have had a Total Nail avulsion and my toe chuffing hurts!!?

Ive had both my toenails on my big toes removed and the nail plate treated with phenol. I had really curved nails so the podiatrist recommended it! Anyway, here I am sitting with my feet elevated and my left toe is really really hurting tonight, its got its own pulse! I was just wondering if anyone had it done and how long before you could drive and how long it took to heal and why do I need to elevate my feet? (Im not diabetic so hopefully will not have healing probs! And I the procedure done yesterday)OMg! I have had a Total Nail avulsion and my toe chuffing hurts!!?

i work in podiatry office and normally we send a patient home with instructions following that procedure that they are in bandaid next day applying Cortisporin drops or using Epsoms salts soaks. your symptoms sound extreme and not typically what we see, i would check back with podiatrist who did procedure. you may have had reaction to phenol or injection to numb toes. i have a pretty informative site if you want to give it a try, myfootshop.com. use the source as link and there is also a discussion forum with a doctor. good luck
I had one big toe nail removed as a result of an injury when I was mugged. I went about in sandals for about six months. The pain eases off after a couple of days, but Paracetamol with Codeine Capulets from Boots really help if you are not allergic to any of the ingredients..You have to keep your feet up to help circulation and I was driving a week after I had it done, but I don't know about having two feet done at the same time. had it done on may 8th to both toes which is a mistake one at a time is pain enough.leave dressings alone maybe add another layer.you will be told to soak them for 3 minutes every day it loosens sterile dressings and redress them immediately. mine took 6 weeks before i could wear triners again but like you i drove after a couple of days.my feet are fine now and i am glad to have had them done.
You will expect swelling, pain and bleeding; this why u have to elevate your legs, above your heart. Elevation minimises, the risk of swelling, pain and bleeding.





Rest your feet as much as possible.


Use paracetamol or aspirin for the pain, together with an ice-pack(wrapped in a tea towel).





Do not wet the dressing or remove it.





I guess u have to get an appointment with your podiatrist within 7-14 days. You can always call the surgery if there are any problems.





From what I understand full recovery will take between 1-2 months.

Try some ice packs. Didn'y you get pain med.s omg that would hurt. The ice will help.
Sounds like you have had a phenol-flare. Podiatrists cannot predict who will experience this. Rest, paracetamol, and regular dressing chages, using acriflex onto the nail bed. Lasts 2-3 days, but can delay healing a little. Typical total avulsion in healthy individual heals in 6 weeks. Older patients, approx 8 weeks.
