Can one clip a dog's toe nails themself?

Mike Rowe did it.Can one clip a dog's toe nails themself?
Yes, but a dogs nails are different then ours. Dogs have whats called ';quick'; in there nails. It is blood vessels and nerve endings that go inside there nails. The quick only goes partway into the nail though. On darker colored nails it can be difficult to spot but you can see where the color changes inside your dogs nails, that is the quick and you dont want to cut it. If you accidently do, dont worry, its not like cutting off a finger or anything. It will bleed a little and cause the dog some pain though. To get the bleeding to stop you can buy whats called ';quick stop'; at any pet store or corn starch works really well. A little insider trick that we use sometimes is to take a flashlight and shine it through the dogs nail when you are clipping them. The quick will show up like magic when doing this. Hope I helped. Can one clip a dog's toe nails themself?
yes, have a groomer or the vet show you how. I do it all the time!
sure, that's what we do with my dog. just be sure to reward them afterwards.

peace
Yes...just be careful not to go to far. You can buy dog nail clippers. If you do make the dog bleed it is fine...He/she will not bleed to death. If you cut to low and bleeding does occur, just use a cotton ball.

Don't be nervous because dogs sense that!! Be calm
Absolutely yes. You must feel comfortable doing it though and your dog must get used to it's paws being touched. Going to a groomer for a little clipping lesson is a great idea. If your dogs nails are extremely long you may only be able to clip them in stages as you train the quick or the little vein part in the nail to recede.

I use a dremmel on my dog. It may take some time for them to get used to the sound but so worth it and the result is very smooth nails.
the dog cant clip his nails but u can its easy but if there black nails b carefull not to clip to short if there wite i can see the blood line dont cut were its red but yes its possible
Yes - you can buy dog nail clippers from the vets or good pet shops.
yes but be careful you can clip the blood vain in the nail
yes one can.

i bought my clippers and nail filer at pet supplies plus.

when clipping the nail tho you want to clip a bit at a time. then wait a week and clip a little more.

you dont want to clip the white part of the nail [its living] or it will cos lots of bleeding [i have experienced it with my pomeranian.] you shuld also have a stedy hand and pacients.. the dog mite not like it.

a vet could also instruct you how to do it.
well, i can, but my dog is very calm about. If your dog is hyper than it might be hard, but possible, yes..
Yes, they make dog toenail clippers. If you're unsure or nervous about it, go to your vet for directions.

If you're talking about the dog clipping its own toenails... then, well... I doubt it. ;o)
of course.. i do it all the time...just be carefull not to cut them too short of it will hurt your dog...
Yes, you can even goto a groomer and ask them to teach you how. Normally they will teach you for the price of a regular nail trim. Remeber to tip!
Of course one can! Just get him used to you touching his nails by feeling and playing with his toes and nails. Then when he is ok with you doing that, you can clip them, but get dog clippers and make sure you don't clip too high up the nail or it will bleed and you might have to go to the animal hospital to help (I know this by personal experience...).
Yep just don't cut into the pink
LMFAO!!!!!

HEL* YES!!!!

Why?? You think there's MAGIC involved???

duh

Too funny.....

Cut EVEN W/THE PAD! %26amp; if you ';quick'; em....NO BIG DEAL!!!!
