My Shushizle dog has long finger/toe nails. can i clip it off?

What should i know?My Shushizle dog has long finger/toe nails. can i clip it off?
You can clip them. If they are light colored nails, look for the pink part and clip IN FRONT of that. If the nails are black, then just trim a little bit off now. You can clip the nails every few weeks.

If you do happen to make one bleed, put either flour or a bar of soap on the bleeding nail until the bleeding stops. My Shushizle dog has long finger/toe nails. can i clip it off?
Yes you should, your dog will be more comfortable. It's recommended to cut your dog's nails once a week. To cut your dog's nails you need a special nail clipper. Only clip the tip of the nail. If you clip too far you risk cutting into the quick (the part of the nail that contains nerves and blood vessels) To avoid this, cut your dog's nail by a light or a well- light area. You should see it's pinkness if the nail is clear. If your dog has black nails then you'll just have to make an educated guess. One way is to look at the paw and cut to where the nail is lined up to the paw. If the nail feels spongy then stop! Good luck!
A great website to see photos and learn about how much to trim is

A little trim often is better than trimming too much too quickly.

If you do a little every couple of weeks your dog will soon get used to having its nails trimmed.

Have some treats handy and reward the dog every couple of nails and always tell him/her good boy/girl often so it knows you are happy it is behaving for you..

If you do make them nail bleed try running the nail over a bar of soap or buy a small bottle of Fryars Balsam at the pharmacy it is a styptic that will stop the bleeding quickly.
I suggest you buy a product called 'Quick Stop' prior to your trimming the dogs nails. This will help stop any bleeding if you do cut into the quick of the dog's nail; and it isn't uncommon for this to happen...even when the professionals do it. Make sure you have a sharp blade on your toe-nail clippers, also.
What on earth is a shushizle?

Yes you can clip his nails but take only a tiny bit off at a time. The quick in the dogs nails will be long but will gradually recede if you clip a tiny amount off once a week. If you take too much off you will hurt the dog and it will bleed...a lot.
If you look really carefully at the nails, there is a vein. You can't cut that vein. If you do your dog could lose alot of blood. Just cut about 3-4 mm away from the vein. Be careful!
You can trim the nail to the quick, no further than that or you will harm them.
i would suggest u take him to a vet and get it done properly, then u can learn to do it yourself.
What on earth is a Shushizle!?
ya but not 2 far
