Why do people have toe nails?

The same reason we have fingernails- to protect the very sensitive skin, nerve endings and capillaries in our extremities-

There is a God- we were planned very well. Why do people have toe nails?
To create a new canvas for snazzy art.

But, seriously:

According to the online encyclopedia, the human and primate nail corresponds to the claw, hoof, or talon of other animals. Human nails protect the tips of the toes and fingers, while fingernails help us pick up small objects and scratch ourselves.

On the other hand, the feet of primates are capable of gripping objects, just like their hands, so their toenails have much the same function as fingernails. However, human toenails seem to be an evolutionary leftover. Why do people have toe nails?
So we can go get pedicures.
because we're human...... y would you wonder about that?
Just in case they lose their hands, they can still scratch theirself.
To protect your toes from getting a horrible smashh and breaking.
Just so that we have something else on our body that needs to be groomed and taken care of.
So that we can annoy our flat mates by clipping them in the middle of the living room!
they are leftover claws from when we needed them to climb trees and dig.
