Do you think it is ok for a 4 1/2 year old boy to paint his toe nails?

My son likes to paint his toe nails - lately my mothers boyfriend had a problem with me letting my son ( supervised of course ) paint his toe nails but couldn't answer why. I was just wondering what others thought - and why ?Do you think it is ok for a 4 1/2 year old boy to paint his toe nails?
Why Not? Hes 4!! , Hes young and having fun,,

nothing wrong with it hun my nephew just turned four and he likes to paint his nails too. thats because he see's his mum and aunt doing it and having fun.he also walks around with my old cabbage patch doll too. oooohhh watch out for gay tendancies!!! lol. tell them to grow up!
Why would you purposely try to raise a gay son?

Life is hard enough, the kid doesn't need that burden on his shoulders as well.
No harm done even if he's an adult. It's silly to think that applying artificial colour on one's nailbeds determines sexual orientation. There are cultures where body adornment is perfectly acceptable for men.

  • I am pregnant and my toe nails are peeling, is this a symtom during pregnancy?

well i have no clue why that girl said ';i dont know'; as her answer, how stupid is that

anyways, your prenatal vitamins should stop that from happening

a fetus acts as a parasite in a womans body, depleting her of her normal levels of protein, kerotine, vitamins, ect....

its normal for pregnant women to have dull hair, brittle nails, and cavities during pregnancyI am pregnant and my toe nails are peeling, is this a symtom during pregnancy?
Are you taking your prenatal vitamins? When you are pregnant, your baby's nutritional needs for growth takes priority over yours. If you don't take proper care of your nutrition, your baby with suck the nutrients out of you. Calcium is a huge nutrient needed for your baby's growth. Calcium is found in your bones and fingernails. If the baby is pulling from your stores to get the calcium it needs, you will start to notice it (ie. brittle fingernails.) If it is doing this to your toenails, just think about how brittle it can be making your bones. I would definately start, or keep taking your prenatal vitamins AND consult your health care provider for any additional information and complications regarding this. When in doubt, check it out.I am pregnant and my toe nails are peeling, is this a symtom during pregnancy?
I've never been pregnant and my finger nails do the same thing. Like, they peel off into layers. If you have ever gotten acrylic put on your nails, that is a possible reason why they're doing that. Or maybe you are lacking calcium. Just how milk builds strong bones and teeth, they can also build strong nails. I don't drink a lot of milk so that could be why. Do you?
Yes, my gf had this before her abortion.
    idk never been pregnant
it's probably because you aren't getting enough calcium. make sure you take your prenatal and eat healthy because the baby will take all that it needs from you and your body will suffer.

Very cute, you could do it yourself easy enough with a nail art pen.

black and white(either way) or maybe brown nails with pink dots? Are polka dots cute as an design on toes and does nail salons do that type of design?
    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Unless you want to look like you have a virus or a ladybug on your foot. DO NOT EVER THINK ABOUT DOING THIS!

If you must, wear a polka dot shirt, shoe or scarf. I gotta tell Stacy and Clinton this one so they can come save you all.
If you want polka dots, do black nails with white dots. Every other color will look like you have a funky virus.
    Pink/White

    Black/Pink

    Football team colors?

Of course it looks cute, and yes most salons can do that, but why pay someone to do if you can do it for free?
Yes they are cute and yes they do. I even had like 5 in a circle with a stone in the middle that made a flower. So cute. The color depends on the nail polish chosen.

Am I supposed to take my budgies to get their toe nails clipped? I got them a bird approved toy and one of ..?

one of them got her toenail tangled in it and paniced. Thank God I was home to untangle it right away. So I have to wonder if I should be getting their nails trimmed. (I have four)Am I supposed to take my budgies to get their toe nails clipped? I got them a bird approved toy and one of ..?
They make a sandpaper covering for perches that does a nice job of filing down unruly toenails on budgies and parrots. It's slit up the side like a cinnamon stick and slides over the existing perch.

You should be able to buy these in packs of three or four at the same store where you got the toy.Am I supposed to take my budgies to get their toe nails clipped? I got them a bird approved toy and one of ..?
id use sandpaper ir there this stuff that looks like that's made for birds u can put on there stand
If you go to a pet shop you can buy a kind of sandpaper tube that fits around the budgies perch.By moving and sitting on the covered perch the birds keep their own nails filed so you don't have to worry about them.It is best to cover only one perch (the one in the middle of the cage) since it can be uncomfortable for the bird if he/she uses it all the time.Hope this answers your question.
I recommend getting their toenails clipped if they get too long. Otherwise your birds can get caught again and again! Most vets will even show you how to clip the nails yourself, so you can do it in the future :)
The best way and the cheapest is to buy sandpaper (usually at Shoprite,Petsmart, %26amp; Animals and Things). Or even better are the sandpaper swings. Buy them at Petsmart and they last for years. And the birds do it by themselves and their nail are automatically trimmed.

It's happened to my budgies as well so many times, but after the sandpaper, it hasn't happened in a while. (It Lasts)
It is sometimes necessary to get their toenails trimmed, but I suspect the problem is the toy, not their nails. As with any toy for any creature (human or not), you must observe them with the toy to ensure it is safe for how your birds use the toy. It would seem perhaps this particular toy is not suitable for your particular budgies. I have a budgie who has deformed toes and her toenails get extremely long and I've never had a problem with her getting stuck on a toy, so I would really consider the toy to be the problem, not the nails.
u sure have to otherwise they may hurt themselves sometimes fatal
I have raised many species of parrot for years and have never had to clip toenails. I always had a variety of different sized branches (yes branches from a tree, willow is great). Cut you branches to an appropriate sise to fit the cage. Wash them in hot water, dry completly and give them to your birdies. Natural branches sever another purpose as well...they will chew on them, removing the bark and have a blast doing it.

By offering differnt size branches it causes the birds to excercise their foot muscles causing them to open and close their tallons therefore scraping their toenails on the rough branch (natural nailfile).

If you really think about it...where do birds come from, outside right? They live in trees with branches...right? They don't have toenail clippers out there do they? No...nature takes care of them just fine. Incorperate a little nature into your birds lives and all will be well.

You'll have to replace the branches every so often.

What do I do about wrinkly, hairy, nail-bitten hands and toes?

Am I overreacting, or should I do something about my hands (and what should I do)?

At thirteen, I've been biting my nails for about ten years and two years ago my doctor had a look at them and said they're grotesque. They haven't gotten better since. I tried using Sally Hansen creams but I can't commit to them, and my mother said fake nails would ruin my weak nails, what with the condition they're in.

The joints at my fingers are really wrinkly because I've gotten into the habit of balling my hands in fists so no one could see my nails, and now my skin's really stretched and used to being in a fist.

I have a lot of dark black hair on my fingers and hand, and a handful of guys insult me for it (I'm hairier than my brother, and I鈥檓 the younger sister, if that tells you anything).

What should I do about my hands (and toes, I suppose, because they鈥檙e in the same condition but without wrinkles)? What do I do about wrinkly, hairy, nail-bitten hands and toes?
maybe u should wax your fingers and if u dont then just dont show them that it bothers u they will stop. try painting your nails with clear polish to strengthen them. take calcium too it will help ur nails get stronger... try not to bit your nails!!!! its not good. every time u are bitting your nails think of all the bacteria that is under ur nails that is now going in your mouth that will help u stop. hope i helped :-)What do I do about wrinkly, hairy, nail-bitten hands and toes?
Well you could shave off the hair on your hands and fingers, or you could use an epilator (epilady). And for your nails, just have alot of protein and calcium.

    Good Luck :)

What is the evolutionary reason for toe nails?

Tree climbing. Serious answer. What is the evolutionary reason for toe nails?
Most mammals use claws for various purposes, climbing, grasping pray, food, fighting.

Most primates, which evolved from monkeys, do not use claws on their feet, so these have degenerated over the last few millions of years.

Hominids and later humans, who, unlike most primates, prefer to walk on their legs rather than climb trees, have no use at all for claws on their feet, therefore these continued degenerating over the last 3 million years.

toe nails could totally disappear in the futureWhat is the evolutionary reason for toe nails?
Same as the reason for fingernails.

Fingernails make it easier for your fingertips to apply pressure when picking things up or gripping them.

Our feet...or rather, the feet of our evolutionary ancestors....were more like hands than feet. Look at a chimpanzee for an example of such.
claws would not look so good in slip-slops so man decided to grow them into toe nails instead
If it's true that we have a common ancestor with other apes, then look at any type of monkey or ape and you'll see what they use them for. They help them grip when they're climbing stuff, and also some can use their feet like hands, so the toenails would be useful tools for tearing open fruit, nuts etc, much like our fingernails still are. Over the generations, the nails have probably become smaller, but haven't disappeared completely. Maybe in another few million years.

and in response to mistrydder... that's a good argument but I reckon that if we never had toenails or fingernails, the skin in that area would be really tough and wouldnt need protecting...
to protect the ends of your toes, like fingernails protect the ends of your fingers. remember, we didn't start wearing shoes until just recently.
I know one guy who keeps biting his nails. Maybe, it's just there for somehting to do if you get bored. Like an acessory. But, nails are usefull for scraching an ich too.
i vote for fingernails being for digging and scratching ( tools and weapons), and that toenails exist because that was just the economical design for DNA.
So that toenal clippers could be invented?

No, to protect the ends of the toes from rocks etc, and to help climb. Remember we are apes and our ancestors climbed. Some of us still do, but usually not in bare feet like in those good old days.

Never introduced to a toe nail clipper. Why do filipino males grow their toe nails long?
    They don't have nail clippers!
Not all filipino males grow their toe nails long, but those who do might have arthritis, therefore they can't bend down to bite the blasted nail. Gets?
They are too lazy to have a pedicure.

    they like that way
I don't! masakit sa rubber shoes when you're exercising...
    No, I'm not..
maybe they don't have nail clippers?
i dont think so. i rarely see guys with long toe nails.
Excuse me but I don't think Filipino men grow their toenails long. The decent ones, anyway. I think you may have met some who are the version of the hippies in the US of A who are not particular with cleanliness or personal hygiene.
Isn't it because those with a big beer belly can't bend down far enough to reach their toes?
    They are ';Bacalas'; shemales !
    They think it's manly.
Hi, mam lanie. how are you? the filipino males doesn't intend to let it grow long mam. sometimes, they forgot for they're busy with their work. sometimes their wife forgot to cut their nails. but mam lanie, it's not that long, really. thanks to you mam.
    Lot of reasons:

    1. They are lazy, how can you work at home if you got long nails.

    2. They feel macho, but this is absolutely wrong!

    3. They got a gay friend, and they started to be one of them too.

    4. Again laziness, to cut there nails.

    5. They hate computers, how can you use the keyboard if you got long nails.
Pardon me but where did you get that idea? We Filipinos

hate long nails. There is no belief, idea, status symbol or fashion trend that promotes long toe nails. yuck.Perhaps only a minority, because they dont have time to clip it,most of their time is devoted to earning a living. Economics! sir.

I just painted mine a bright pink.
french manicure - the colour stays and stays without chipping, and your hands and toes will always look glam.

Paint each toe a different color....

Show the world you are a free thinker...
I just painted mine a nice middle pink :D
U SHOULD PAINT IT HOT PINK..... THATS REAL CUTE, AND IT REALLY DEPENDS ON UR SKIN COLOR. PEACHEY SKIN COLOR DESERVES PINK, BROWN SKINS DESERVE A DARK COLOR OF RED WIT SPARKLES
    very light pink or cream
    rainbow
well if your skin color is the same as your avator then maybe you should color toenails like a light faded pink or clear!
Do you paint your nails? The new fashion says the toes don't have to be the same color. What colors do you wear most often? What is your personality - are you; outrageous, gentle, girly, butch or goth? The right color for you is right there at the nail color rack. It will jump out and say, ';Hey, pick me!'; LOL
The same color as your lipstick or sexiest outfit.

Bright pink! It makes you feel very girlie!
    yellowish green
i have a thing 4 feet, and i like it whn girls paint their toes baby blue, blue or french pedicure. it all depends on ur skin tone, dark nail polishes look better against lighter skin tones and lighter polishes look better against dark skin tones. from the look of your avatar it looks like u have a darker skin tone, i would go with silver nail polish with glitter, baby blue, or pink.

Toe nails are a yellowish colour? is it spray tan or diet??

my toe nails are a off yellowish colour.. not sure why? I do get spray tanned but the tan lady said this doesnt happen?Toe nails are a yellowish colour? is it spray tan or diet??
My nails have the same problem. It has to be the spray tan...why is that you ask? Because the same thing happened to me as soon as I started spray tanning. It goes away a few weeks later after you stop. Hint...wash your toes after you spray it on.Toe nails are a yellowish colour? is it spray tan or diet??
next time you paint your toe nails, make sure you use a base coat! this helps protect your nail against stains and keeps your polish on for longer.
Could be stains from old polish, but the spray tan seems likely to cause it too. Try buffing the nails and applying clear polish to protect them before your next spray tan session.
could be a fungus which is normal, nail polish and my toenails got this from not letting my toenail breath because of nail polish then cleared up after a while/
Hi Jess, You might have a toe nail infection you need to see your doctor and find out. There is medicine that can help with this.

    poppy1
I't sounds like you might have and toe nail fungal problem.
Try buffing the tops of your toenails. If the nail doesn't get any lighter than it probably isn't from the tan. Your might have a fungus on your toenails. You can try rubbing some vics vapor rub on your nails. This is supposed to help with nail fungus. It might work right away or it might take awhile so try it for a couple weeks. Or you can just go to a podiatrist and get his/her opinion. Good Luck and God Bless!

    Painting your daughters toe nails?

Do you paint your daughters toe nails- or not? I have thought about it, but she loves to eat her feet lol (7 mths old tomorrow) and I do not know what you mommies do and would love your input.

    :)Painting your daughters toe nails?
LOL, it occurred to me to paint my (nearly one year old) son's toenails, because he's so fascinated by nail polished fingers. But I just painted mine (something I don't usually do) and let him play with them. I don't think once the nail polish dried it would be such a big deal, but it's the 15-20 minutes it takes to dry that I think would be a nightmare.Painting your daughters toe nails?
I paint my 7 and my 2 year olds toes. I started painting the 7 year olds toes when she was about 11 months. And my 2 year old when she was 9 months. I give them a color choice. No Blacks. My 7 year old usually does:

    Pink

    Orange

    Red

    Yellow

And she mixes. One toe Pink, one to Red, one to Pink and so on.

    My 2 year old uses:

    Teals

    Reds

    Pinks

    Oranges

    Green

    Peach

I also put jewels on them to make them more ';fancy';. My 2 year old LOVES it. She calls herself the diva when I put them on. But that is usually if they have been good or if they want it. :-)

EDIT: I didn't read your question! Hah. Sorry.

I would go to the doctor and ask him/her what polishes are and aren't poisonus. Because some are and if she eats her toenails then she could get them in her system. That wouldn't be very good!! :-Z
I've done her big toe a few times, when I was doing mine. (Although she's at the eat my feet now stage too, so I stopped)

I did it when she was asleep, that's when I cut her nails anyway. I didn't hold her down or anything after while it tried, I just figured if it rubbed off, well too bad ! It was really cute !
Sure, right before I put her make up on and her high heels, I paint her nails.

Geez, I just don't get why some people think that babies can be treated like dolls.

ETA - Note - nothing was directed at you personally. I just dislike babies being dressed and treated like dolls. You asked for everyone's input, you got it.
My daughter will be 2 and I have never painted her toes. I've had random people mention painting her toenails but it just never occurred for me to do so. I really don't see much point in it.
PAINT! Ha, I have enough trouble clipping them. she'd never stay still long enough for them to dry. She's such a busybody. 10 months old--learning to walk and such you know.
I haven't ever done it - my daughter is 22 months. There are some little girls at her gymnastics class who have their nails painted - personally, I just don't like how it looks on little girls.
If she likes to eat her feet i would refrain to that until you get doctors consultion. Nail polish can be some what poisonous and is not meant to be eaten .
Although it is really tempting, it is probably better not to ;)
how cute. i dont think i would but it could be fun for a party or something x x
when she stops eating those feet go for it!! my daughter loves it!!

    Bruising under my toe nails?

They were not bumped, all I did was walk normally.

Could I have a blood disorder like leukemia? Bruising under my toe nails?
doubtful. don't rule it out though. it's probably from walking such a long distance. maybe pressure from the shoes. and uphill vs. downhill. stuff like that take advil(ibuprofen) soak and massage your feet. good luck

  • My guinea pig has a brown thing on the toe nails.?

    Lets say these are the nails U U U U, U U U U

    ......................................… ↑ on this 1........↑ on this 1

Could it be poop, or a fungus? What should I do bought it, and how could I get rid of it? (I tried to snip off it a little but that seems to hurt her.) My guinea pig has a brown thing on the toe nails.?
I do not believe its fungal unless your piggie's cage is very wet all the time. Even then, the fungus would not be brown. It would cause the toes to become infected and swollen. Its probably dried poop, which can get as hard as concrete if left on the nails for a long period of time.

Place a small hand towel in the bottom of a sink to keep your piggie from slipping. Draw about an inch of warm water in the sink---just enough to cover her feet. Place your piggie in the sink (the piggie will not like this) and let those nails soak a good 7-10 minutes. Talk softly to your piggie and pet her while she's in the sink so she'll be calm. Take her out, wrap her in a dry towel, and using your fingernail or some other stiff, but not sharp object, try to pry the dried poop off the nails. Be careful not to pull too hard or you may pull the whole nail off. Just chip away at the gunk a little at a time until its gone.

Also be careful that the dried poop has not adhered to any part of the toe pad (skin) or you may accidentally remove skin too. Ouch.

Good luck~My guinea pig has a brown thing on the toe nails.?
Have you ever heard of pododermatitis, otherwise known as bumble foot? Sometimes when it starts out it can look like dried poop stuck to their foot, but it's actually connected to their foot. My guinea pig had it but it stayed under control and didn't really bother him.

Here are some web sites about this condition.

    http://www.oginet.com/pgurney/bumblefoot.htm

If you think she might have this, you should take her to the vet because it can get worse and may become painful to her.
The odds are that it is poop. Once it is dried on, it will hurt if you just try to snip it off. Take a cotton ball or a bit of tissue and soak it with warm soapy water. Put it on the nail and hold it there for 10 or 15 minutes. If it is poop, it should loosen up and gentle scraping should get it off. You may need to repeat the process to get it all off
I think you can get nail brushes from the pet shop. it may be poo.

when you cut the nails dot go to far as this will hurt her.

If you are not cutting that far down she is probably does not like the feeling or is worried it will hurt.
might be poop... get a wet cotton pad and keep wiping it over the top.

if it doesnt come off perhaps ring the vets and ask what it could be

ps. love the diagram of the toes its cute.x
    it's probably poo.

don't touch her nails with clippers at all. that seriously hurts animals.

and just to be safe, take her to a vet.

    good luck =]

Take it to the vet. It may be fungus.

    Yea i agree,

could be fungus you should get her to a vet quickly.
thts wierd, maybe u shud see a vet?

vicks really does work, you have to put it on your nails every night till gone, ( it will take about 2 months)

Why do we have finger/toe nails?

What purpose do/did they serve? Why do we have finger/toe nails?
    If you consider us to be the products of evolution, then the answer is the same as for any question of the form, ';What is the purpose of %26lt;feature x%26gt; in %26lt;organism y%26gt;?';

No purpose. The humans who survive tend to have finger and toe nails. That's all. It is not necessary for finger and toe nails to provide a competitive advantage, but it helps. Features that don't provide the organism with an advantage are called ';vestigal.'; I would guess that our toenails are vestigal. (even some of our TOES are vestigal). On the other hand, I find my fingernails to be pretty useful at times. (e.g., to open my pocket knife.)

Often the same genes that control the expression of a useful feature may be linked to a vestigal feature as well. I am no geneticist, but I bet that the genes that determine our fingernails have a lot in common with the genes that determine our toenails and vice versa. So, even though our toenails are not so useful, we probably will continue to have them for as long as we have fingernails.

If you're a fan of Stephen Jay Gould, then you believe as I do that most so-called ';higher'; organisms (us included) are evolutionary dead ends. In a practical sense, that means that when the last human dies, he/she probably still will have finger and toe nails. Why do we have finger/toe nails?
They evolved from claws. Claws were versatile, being used as weapons, climbing/gripping aids, and in food preparation.

Fingernails serve similar purposes. They can be used as weapons (scratching someone), for better grip (i.e. opening the flip lid on a ketchup bottle), and for food preparation (peeling fruit, etc).
They protect our fingertips. They give support to our fingertips as well. Try pressing against the tip of your finger. Do you feel the strength it has to not bend backwards? Now imagine what would happen if you did the same thing without any fingernail. Your finger would be kind of ';mushy'; so it wouldn't have any strength to be able to grip something properly.

How do i grow beautiful toe nails?

my toe nails are just really ugly and they dont grow at allHow do i grow beautiful toe nails?
I'd suggest trying some Biotin and Silica... and that's assuming you already have a generally healthy diet.

It will take a few months to notice the new nails because fingernails and toenails do take a long time to grow, but within a couple months, you should be able to see the base of your toenails looks healthier than the rest. In the mean time, you could get a pedicure to help the current appearance of your toes... that may help you feel better until the healthy new nails grow in.

Also, the Biotin is good for hair, skin, and nails, so you should get some other benefits from it as well.

You may also want to start taking care of your cuticles in the next few months, as they will reflect on the ';beauty of your toes';. ;-)How do i grow beautiful toe nails?
    get regular pedicures.
Get a professional pedicure about once a month to get them looking good. Beyond, that, it takes whatever time it takes for them to grow, but who wants really long toenails?

I smashed my big toe months ago, and lost the nail. The tip of toe bone was also splintered.?

When nail grew back so far, DR seems to think it is is jamming up against a bone spur or something. He removed the nail today to ease pain. 3 choices for long term:

    1. let it grow again, see if it grows back ok [why would it the second time ] sorta' doing that now.

    2. Do some surgery to bone in toe to ';smooth'; or remove spur, no guarantee nail would come back ok.

    3. Remove nail again, and kill the nail bed, so no nail forever.

Kinda' creepy but 3 may the best option,,,, What do you think ?I smashed my big toe months ago, and lost the nail. The tip of toe bone was also splintered.?
Many people have been able to eliminate bone spurs naturally, without surgery. You can read more about this at http://www.bonespur.com

Last month my toe went numb and now the nail is going black any ideas why no silly answers thanks.....?

I think you should call your MD - and be sure you don't have a circulation issues (diabetic) and or an infection.

It could be something as simple as toe trauma but it's best to have a real doctor make sure you are healthy.

Good Luck. While I do not think it's a dire emergency I think speaking to your MD the sooner the better -

Just to rule out any health concerns and make sure your toe is going to heal well.Last month my toe went numb and now the nail is going black any ideas why no silly answers thanks.....?
no more blood is going into your nail, they are dying. it`s an emergency, go right now at the hospital or cangren will be.Last month my toe went numb and now the nail is going black any ideas why no silly answers thanks.....?
    go to the doctor,.................

you could have a blocked vein, you could have anything......are you a smoker?

    good luck
you might want to go to a hospital now

    LIKE RIGHT NOW
Did you bump it? I did this once and the nail went black after being numb and then the whole thing fell off! It didn't hurt though and soon grew back....you must have damaged the nail bed. If you did not bump it and cannot remember any trauma to the toe at all...then go to the docs.
You've bruised the toenail basically - The painful black appearance of the nail of the longest toe of one or both feet is thought to be caused by traction on the underside of the toe pulling the nail base off the nail with little bleeds from the tiny blood vessels. Wearing shoes which are long enough, have a big enough toebox, and fit properly at the heel so that your feet don't slip in them, is important. Make sure your socks fit properly too.

Did you drop anything on your toe or have you been running or walking in new shoes/boots?

  • How do i get her to stop biting her finger and toe nails?

Dip them in something that tastes really bad, like vinegar. How do i get her to stop biting her finger and toe nails?
Well, maybe shoes will help with the toes, but these habits can last forever. When my niece gets tired into the mouth goes her thumb. She is 27 years old. Good luck! How do i get her to stop biting her finger and toe nails?
I have been told there is a nail polish that taste really bad and it wont hurt them.
I babysat my boyfriend's 5-year-old niece, and she has some discipline problems (when she stays with her grandparents she gets away with murder). She LOVES to wear nailpolish, but also bites her nails and sucks her thumb. Her grandparents indulge this behavior, saying that she suffers from an oral fixation and can't help it. I say that's a load of crap, and she's going to have problems with her teeth if she keeps up the sucking.

Well, one day when I had her, she more or less threw a fit when I told her she couldn't suck her thumb. I explained that if she wanted to be a big girl and be pretty, she could wear nailpolish, but under no circumstances could she bite her nails or suck her thumb, because nailpolish isn't good for you. OR, if she insisted on sucking her thumb, we would take the nailpolish off.

She wanted to suck her thumb.

    We took the nailpolish off.

    Nailpolish remover tastes HORRIBLE.

She didn't suck her thumb the rest of the time I had her.
The product is called stop and grow. You can paint it on toe and finger nails - like nail polish and it tastes foul. I hope there is a similar product in your area. Re-apply it each day.

Your local pharmacist should be able to help you. Rewards for not biting may also help.

WHY DOES DOGS CHEW OR BITE THEIR TOE NAILS?

Some dogs chew their feet because they have allergies. Dogs have the same type of cells in their feet, that you have in your nose; allergies make our nose itch and your dogs feet itch.

If you are feeding a food with high amount of corn and or wheat, this could cause food allergies to present in the feet. Look for something without these grains, like Canidae or Wellness.

When is the last time the animals nails were trimmed? A groomer can do this for $8-10 depending on where you live, if you can't trim the nails yourself.

Chewing could also be caused by a cut or thorn or a fungal infection around the nail or a hot spot or broken nail. Take a close look at your pet's paws, or have said groomer or a vet do so.WHY DOES DOGS CHEW OR BITE THEIR TOE NAILS?
Are they chewing or licking them?

Dogs don't normally chew their nails to keep them short. Nature does that by them doing the job the dog was bred for. If it has been bred out to breeds that no longer do the job intended then you will have to keep them cut.

One such useless appendage on some breeds is the dew claw. No longer needed in a lot of breeds today, but once were used to help the dog get a grip on steep banks to get out of the water.

Dogs will lick at a sore, so the claws may be damaged in some way have you looked to see?

There is also another problem called Acral Lick Dermatitis. That is the dog will lick and lick a certain area to cause a skin reaction, resulting in sores and infection.

Either way, check your dogs nails regularly, treat with betadine if their is a sore and get them trimmed. If it is the latter problem ALD then you need to consult a vet for treatment. It is a psycological problem.

WHY DOES DOGS CHEW OR BITE THEIR TOE NAILS?
Mouthing is an unavoidable part of canine development--it's how young dogs learn about their world. Fortunately, by consistently signaling to your pup that biting is unacceptable, and giving her playtime with other dogs who'll teach her the same lesson, she'll learn to use her jaws very gently.

    http://dogtime.com/biting-and-mouthing.h鈥?/a>
Boredom or infection are the two most common reasons. Neither of my dogs chew or bite their toenails and none of my friends' dogs do either.
if you let a dog's nails grow too long the dog will try to fix the problem himself by biting off the ends of his nails
not all dogs do some do it because of dry skin and stuff or their nail has a problem with it.
its like u having gunk under if finger nails would u like it?because they have stuff stickin to them.
Mine licks because he has a nail infection.

Why would under 3 of my husbands toe nails turn pinkish ?

omg weird but under my husbands 3 middle toes they are a pinkish orange color!

we washed them and still pinkish!!

    what can this be?

he hasnt worn any colored socks! Why would under 3 of my husbands toe nails turn pinkish ?
the color might come from under the nail

might be fungus or something else

might be it's just a normal reaction in the nail and probably harmless

    go see a foot doctor

don't even ask a nail tech cause they probably said it fungus and try to sell fungus cream and such

nail tech only working on normal nail they dont had license to determine and treat such thing

It is odd, have you made sure it is not a fungus? My toe nails are weak and brittle. How to treat ???
    Drink Knox gelitan.
I found that wearing alot of nail polish, really strengthens the nails...I went for years not wearing nail polish, because it does make the nails yellow, underneath, but, my nails never grew very long, and they broke easily.. So, I started to wearing it again, in spite of the yellowing..underneath.. no one can see this anyway.. And my gosh, my nails haven't grown this long, since I was pregnant with my kids!!! So, I highly recommend wearing nail polish, and when it wears down, freshen it up with some more, the thicker, the better!!! People, on this page are going to tell you to take prenatal vitamins, and I honestly think thats a bad idea, for women who are not pregnant!!! For some reason, they think anyone can take them!!! Not good, and their not doctors, so be careful, about that one!! Good-Luck, to you!!!

Yes, I guess that's fine to compliment girls on whatever can be seen, including painted toe nails/toe rings etc.

But if a complete stranger came up to me and complimented me on a toe ring I would think..

    1. That's a little weird

    2. He might have a foot fetish or something

    3. That's cute that he noticed

So mixed responses could come out of it :)Here's a Q for the ladies. If you go out of your way to paint your nails and wear toe rings cant we say so?
well we're obviously doing it for the attention and the compliments.

So pay a little attention and just compliment the work shes put into it.

And then you should just be able to leave it at that. Any girl who goes to far on it is retarded. And any guy who just completely stares is weird.

    :)
It's just a bit of a strange compliment. You could probably do better ones. Even ';you look nice'; or ';you look good today'; would be better than ';nice toe ring';.
Of course you can, I'm assuming you walked up to a random and said this though - which makes you seem a tad creepy.

    :)
compliment away! Isn't that why we paint our nails and wear jewelry- so people will notice that we look nice? ha good for you for noticing.
    hahaha

Compliments are nice as long as you dont stare

They have a few products that you can use like nail polish and it's clear and it tastes awful, so you stop biting your fingernails. I know one was called Stop and Grow. They also have one in the baby section for kids to stop sucking thumbs. It is the same product. As for your toenails, How in the heck do you get your feet to your mouth? Do you match your nails and toes in nail polish color?

yep .. always... looks funny otherwise... unless one is a natural colourDo you match your nails and toes in nail polish color?
Almost never!! I usually use very subtle colours on my nails, and leave my toes for those colours that are too loud or bright/dark to be seen on my hands!! Great for a bit of experimentation and rebellion! ;) Plus if necessary, you can alway wear closed shoes to hide them from disapproving eyes...Do you match your nails and toes in nail polish color?
Not very often.I usually have a strong colour on my toe nails and a pale colour on my finger nails. At the moment I have navy blue on my toes and OPI- take my to the taj on time (natural pinky/beige) on my finger nails.
Hell no! I love wearing different colors on my fingers and toes. I rarely ever (basically never) wear the same color on my toes and fingers. Like right now my fingers are a kelly green and my toes are electric blue. I love funky colors!
Yes! If not it would be very weird for me.

Imagine fingernails are baby pink and your toe nails are black!

    That's a little off. :(
yea i try to always but at times wen i dont go out then ill settle with just my finger nails but if ima wear some open toe shoes or something i like to match
not always the same color, but matching(or at least not clashing).....
    ALWAYS!
    definitely!
    sometimes
    Never.

But I make sure the colors don't contrast TOO much.
    Yes...Pretty Much Always

Ya, I usually do or else I feel weird...Ha, Ha!

Ingrown nail on my big toe is causing a lot of pain.?

Ok, so I've had this ingrown nail for like a month. I've tried clipping the ';pointy part,'; where it hurts the skin. But it had gotten to the point where I cannot clip it anymore because it's already too low. So now I'm waiting for it to grow back, but I'm getting impatient since it grows so slow. Just earlier, I checked it, and a tiny little drop of yellow slimy thing squirted out.. (gross). Not a lot, just a very tiny droplet. Could it be an infection?Ingrown nail on my big toe is causing a lot of pain.?
ingrown toe nails can be so painful, I know cause I got one.

DONT suffer. If you go to your doctor He can remove it for you. The only part of it that is painful is the injection to deaden your toe. You will be so happy when its gone as if you keep cutting it it will keep growing.

Hope everything goes well for youIngrown nail on my big toe is causing a lot of pain.?
The yellow stuff is most likely puss it would be good to get all that you can out. Best is the see a doctor about it. But, in the mean time what I did was I had a small flat-head screwdriver and I would start at the bottom of the toenail and start lifting up at the first point you can and clip what doesn't seem right.
it very definitely is infected, and that is because an ingrown nail can't be seen, it hurts because it's IN grown, under the skin, into the tissues. You should see a doctor to get the ingrown portion removed and antibiotics for the infection.
    it prolly is!

when that happened to me i had to wait for it to just grow out

you should go to the doctor so they can give you an ointment or something before it spreads!
    that would be puss.

u have to get the ingrown cut professionally probably because the puss is a sign of almost becoming an infection.
YEAH YOU NEED TO PULL THAT OUT...THATS NASTY

I agree with Skittles, putting a brick in my past rats cage helped with her sharp nails. How do you trim a rats toe nails?
I have 2 rats of my own and was wondering the same thing. I was thinking about trying to use nail clippers but I'm too scared to try. They're kind of fidgety and it would be terrible if I accidentally hurt them! I know that sometimes I see one of mine kind of nibbling at her toes, I wonder if they trim their own if they get too long? I've also heard that if you add something in their cage with a rough texture it can wear them down when they walk on it. Maybe you can ask a vet, if you are willing to pay, but other than that I don't know. I just leave mine be, it seems fine except sometimes when I hold them it scratches me a bit.

please take a look at my ?:http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a>
You can put a brick in their cage and they will scratch on it and wear them down, I wouldn't risk trimming their tiny nails.
do you think that a guinea pig is much different than a rat for nails? we trim our guinea's nail with our own nail clipper once a month. maybe this will help.

When I say ';squared off';, I mean all square looking like what you would see with a French pedicure.Should a guy have ';squared off'; toe nails?

My fingers and toe nails have been turning yellowish brown when i went to get a pedicure the lady said?

its from wearing nail polish for long periods any ideas how to get them back white again. My fingers and toe nails have been turning yellowish brown when i went to get a pedicure the lady said?
change nail polish - either to one without formaldehyde or go with a lighter color! My fingers and toe nails have been turning yellowish brown when i went to get a pedicure the lady said?
That's happened to me before. I've had my toenails turn almost brown because I always use polish. Let them 'breathe'. Stop wearing polish, even a clear coat, for a few weeks. If you don't see an improvement, maybe you could find something over-the-counter to use. Good Luck!
Happens to me all the time. It's due to the lack of oxygen the nails are getting from being covered with polish for a long time. Best thing to do is don't put polish on them for awhile. Let them grow out and the yellow should go away withing a week or two. Keep them moisturized with a hand and nail cream or baby oil.

To prevent this from happening again make sure that you don't keep on one nail polish for over a week. Then let your nails rest with no nail polish on at least one day between repainting.
i've heard eating fiber helps your nails
stop wearing polish, put pure tea tree oil (antifungal)on them, and make sure your nails are dry when you get out of the shower.

In about a month or so, they will clear up when new nail grows in.
if you can afford it,get stuff to soak them in=then just use a nail hardener for awhile until the yellow coloring leaves =good luck

Why Do People Like To Smeel Their Flatulence and Toe Nails?

This may sound like a disgusting topic, and I guess it is, but I was truly curious about this.

I have this weird habit to almost instinctively smell my flatulence when I'm in bed, and other places. Whenever I clip my toenails I cant help buy sniffing them. These are a few of the things I find myself almost habitually sniffing...and I cant find out why.

One might say that I'm just a freak suffering from some rare mental disorder, but I have seen and heard about these habits on TV (often being made fun of) , indicating that many people share these habits.

I thought about this, and one answer I came up with is, maybe we do this to sort of ';check'; ourselves. Body odors such as our flatulence or sweat, or toenails may be markers for our bodies well-being. As cavemen when we were relied more heavily on our sense (in this case smell), we may have smelled our flatulence to see if we were healthy, thus cavemen who smelled there flatulence would survive longer and be more healthy-reproduceWhy Do People Like To Smeel Their Flatulence and Toe Nails?
See this site for everything you wanted to know about flatulence, but were afraid to ask...

Is smeel a kind of kneeling or bend-over posture?
You don't get out much, do you?
I don't usually smell my flat... by i sometimes smell my toe when i clip the nail, though I can't deny not having smelt my f...ever. The reason I think for both is that I want to know myself.. It is the same reason why i think a person would want to look at his asshole with a hand-held mirror even when he/she knows exactly what he/she will see. But the price is more in case of flat.... so I dont do it.. Even the smell of my toe hasn't changed over the years so I don't recall doing it in the recent past. but again I have to say that reading your question made me want to clip my toe nail just to get a whiff.......
i don't ever SMEEL my farts or toenails!

I cut my toe nails too short?

i noticed that when my toenails grow back the nail turns white and not stay clear like the rest of the nail from the base up before it reaches the tip of my toe. before my toenail would grow all the way to the tip of my toe before turning white. is there anything i can do to cure this?I cut my toe nails too short?
It sounds like you have a toenail fungus. It causes the nail to separate from the underlying tissue. There are over the counter drops you can apply or you can take an oral prescription to cure it.I cut my toe nails too short?
It sounds like you stubbed your toe.

Nails in general will turn white in the area that blunt force has occurred to the nail bed (luna area nearest the skin).

If the nail or nails are turning yellow or crumbly, or thickened and scaly, see a doctor immediately as this may be a sign of embedded nail fungus.
well..u probably need to go to the doctor !
    let them grow out
    don't cut them too short.
I think you lack a certain B vitamin that causes that.

if she doesnt know how to chew on her footCan i polish my 3 month old baby's toe nails?
I think that 3mth's is too young but you do what you feel is best.
I would wait until they are past the point of putting their toes in their mouth because it can flake off and I'm sure it isn't good for them. I used to be a nanny for 4 year-old girl and her mom started taking her at age 2 to have her nails done about once every couple of months.
    I use to do it.
why would you want to, it has chemicals and fumes that may cause problems, remember your babies lungs are much smaller than yours
Yes. There's nothing wrong with it, but I wouldn't do it.
Do you know what kinds of chemicals are in that junk?! Do your research. I wouldn't paint my babies toenails. She's not a doll for goodness sake. She doesn't need her toenails painted.
I have seen this done a lot and they grow up to be completely normal. I also know there have been several tests on nail polish and the effects...some being cancer and birth defects. Best to ask the doctor at your next baby well check. Write it down so you don't forget it.

Should i go to hurricane harbor if my toe nails are ugly?

If you think you have ugly toes then wear water shoes, but if its only the toenails you are talking about then clip them short and add a red or pink polish to them. Add a shiney top coat and wear a toe ring. You'll feel much better. Yes there are so many people who have grosser feet than you think and you do see all kinds of gross feet.Should i go to hurricane harbor if my toe nails are ugly?
    Honey,

When visiting the pool, beach, or water park you'll discover all sorts of folks with ugly feet that are probably more messed up than yours. Don't be ashamed, weir humans... weir not perfect., and weir all different.

If you really feel bad about your feet i suggest purchasing these rubber slippers:

    Cutting dogs toe nails?

ive cut one of my dogs toe nails to short and it wont stop bleeding what should i do?Cutting dogs toe nails?
Amazingly the flour actually works. I did that once. Only I just used pressure till it stopped and that was over a year ago. After that he wouldn't let me trim his nails without my husband's help.

Look into getting the dremel tool with the right attachment for trimming dog toenails. It works well and is less damaging to the nail end than the standard nail clippers are. There's also a specialized doggie nail trimmer that's a drill made just for that purpose. -!-Cutting dogs toe nails?
    http://www.thepetcenter.com/gen/nailtrim…

... from the previous link ... ';What To Do If You Cut Too Short!!

    Place a tiny piece of tissue paper tightly against the end of the nail and hold it for a few minutes. Better yet, have some Quick Stop Powder available and put a small amount up against the bleeding end of the nail. This works right away. Or... do nothing. The bleeding will stop in about 5 to 7 minutes. Any more than that...give your veterinarian a call. ';

... info on how to dremel your dog's nails ...

    http://homepages.udayton.edu/~merensjp/d…
hi, not to panic as my vet told me if i did not to worry, it will stop. If any one is bleeding you always apply pressure, and hold it higher than the heart. But by now i expect it has finished anyway. You can by liquid drops at good pet shops which you apply to the nail if it bleeds , this swill help the blood to clot and stop the bleeding. In a way the same as a mans shaving stick they use when they cut them self's. When you cut the nail if you can see the vein that's great then you no when to stop going down, but if your dog is like me and they are black it is hard. My vet always make my dog bleed. Some doggy hair dresses offer nail cutting service for about £2, maybe you could try them. Good luck, and hope everything is ok now.
Use styptic powder if you have some. Just be careful in the future when you're cutting your dog's toenails, especially smaller breed dogs, as it is very painful for them. It is like cutting your fingernails too short. My husband cut my chi's nail into the quick and he didn't walk on that one paw for a good 2 weeks -- that's how painful it is for them.
Nails seem to bleed forever. Not to worry, flour or cornstarch and applying pressure (with a paper towel pressed %26amp; held on the bleeding nail) will do the trick.

For the future you can get ';Kwik Stop'; from any pet supply. It is a styptic powder to clot and stop bleeding. It stings like crazy when it's applied, so don't expect your dog to love this stuff.
Yes, Flour works. It works because it clogs up the blood vessel and soaks up anything coming, and it will just stop the bleeding until the wound heals itself. Also, it's harmless.

A good way to help keep your doggies toenails down so you don't have to trim them as much, is to just play ball or fetch, or walk on concrete or pavement.

Hope you have fun with your dog!!
Take a little bit of flour and put the nail in it. It should help stop the bleeding.
Get some styptic powder. You shouldn't need the vet for this one but you have to be able to get it under control soon.
Flour, just like other people suggested.
baking powder or cornstarch also works
If you have quick stop that will work or call your vet and ask him what you should do
always look for the '; Quick '; and never cut past it
have you tried taking your dog for a walk so you dont have to cut them?
Omg. There is a vein in the nail. If the toenail is cut too short, you can use a styptic pencil containing silver nitrate, or stypic powder. Wet a cutip, dip in the powder, and apply to the bleeding nail. Even without any treatment the nail should stop bleeding in about 5 minutes or less.I’m very sorry to hear of the accident, I know it must have been very frightening for you. I’ve done the same and have felt really bad. Get yourself a pair of clippers that has a guard tab so you can only cut a small portion of her nail. I’ll include a web site link to show you what I’m referring to.

It’s probably a “little” tender for her, but it’s nothing serious. Just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t start bleeding again. If she gets it real dirty, (example:digging in the dirt) I’d rinse it off. A saline solution (for rinsing contact lens) is the BEST for this or to clean a cut because it is sterile. I always keep this on hand!

Other than that it’ll be fine sweetie! Even the vet’s cut them too short sometimes, so don’t feel bad. I use to cut my boy’s nails until my ex-husband nearly cut half his nail off*rolls eyes*! I wanted to smack him up side his head!!! But I was too busy because it bled enormously.

So I let the Vet do it because he’s hesitant on allowing me to now. Your girl might be the same, so next time you cut them, take it real slow with her. For some reason this is something they do not forget!

As I’m sure you know, always keep styptic powder to stop the bleeding if an accident happens. You can use flour, but the other is the best. With her being so little a better choice is the nail sticks. I’ll give you links to show ya what these products are. I’m NOT promoting the seller, only showing you the product.

Nail Surgery??--- Is my toe infected?

    I had nail surgey on octover 31st to get my toenail removed because it was ingrown. 2 Days later I experienced extreme pain and throbbing in the toe. It got to the point where I had to walk on the side of my foot because the pain was too intense to walk normally. The pain gradually got less and less, and it keeps on going on and off. I went back to the podiatrist on 7th Nov to get the dressing changed. He said that my toe was fine, but the effects of an infection were;

    Smell

    throbbing

redness and swelling in the toe,

I have all of these symptoms and he says my toe is not infected. The throbbing, redness and smell is still there.

What should I do- podiatrist said it isnt infected.Nail Surgery??--- Is my toe infected?
Go back to the podiatrist. Tell him you are worried about all the pain and smell, etc. Ask him how to control the pain, why the toe is so red; get him ti explain to your satisfaction everything you want to know. Take a friend who can help you understand what he says. Write down your questions ahead of time and get every one of them answered. Until you are satisfied, keep bugging the doctor. Ask him to treat the foot to cut the smell to the point you are OK with it.

Many people suffer terrific anxiety about something when they need to push the doctor to tell them more.

If after all that you are still dissatisfied, go to an urgent care clinic and have it evaluated. Be careful to keep your foot elevated, avoid bad shoes, follow proper foot care.

    Good luck.

Is it ok for me cut my dog toe nails?

yes just don't cut on the red line going through the nail, that is a vein and can cause the dog to bleedIs it ok for me cut my dog toe nails?
Yes, but it's only okay if you know what you are doing. It also depends on the breed, because i have a snauzcher and a part of their temperment is they hate their paws being dealt with. If you cut the dog's nails too short then it will bleed, but if that does happen, don't freak out, just get cooking flour and put it on the gashed area. It is probably easier if you just go ahead and take the dog to the vet, but it's cheaper if you go ahead and have the dog groomed and bathed along with it.

Good Luck! :)Is it ok for me cut my dog toe nails?
You can cut them if you have dog nail cutters, but you have to be very carfeful not to cut into the quick. This will make your dog bleed and is painful. Its pretty easy to see it if your dog has light colored nails (its the pink colored strip). But, if they are dark then its alot harder to judge. Also, this can be a difficult task if you have never done it and are planning on doing it alone (or even with help depending on your dog).
It depends on how your dog reacts to it and how experienced you are. If it is a easy going dog that doesn't mind and you are somewhat sure what you will do I would say yes. If you are going to cut them yourself I would suggest buying a dremel tool from Lowes. It is an excellent way to trim nails with its sandpaper attachement. The hardest part either way is to make sure that you don't getinto thequick of your dogs nail.
Yes, but you can't do it with human nail clippers. You need to go to a pet store and buy Dog nail clippers. When you're cutting your dogs nails, DO NOT GO INTO THE PINK. It's very very light, so be extremely careful. Also, if you wait too late to cut its nails, they become infected and will hurt no matter how far away from the pink you are. If it's your first time, you should go to a vet and have them show you how to do it.

    Good luck!
You would be far better asking your vet or a dog groomer...........If a dog is given sufficient exercise on a hard surface, there should not be the need to cut the nails, and an occasional file down of the dew claw is all that is required. If you cut the quik, it can be extremely painful for the dog, and it may never let you near its feet again, so not worth the risk.
Yes, but like the others have said you have to be careful not to cut off too much or the dog will start bleeding. I would start off cutting just a tiny bit. P.S. But if you do accidentally cut a little to deep and it starts bleeding, my vet told me to put a drop of glue on the end of the nail to stop the bleeding. It sounds weird to do but it works. When your dog wiggles a lot it is bound to happen once in awhile. Good Luck, any questions let me know, chris
you can but what kind of dog do you have? i have a boxer and his are to big to cut so i use a dremel. it all depends how thick your dogs toenails are. if they are really small, regular toenail clippers would work, and if it is a big dog, and you decide to use the dremel, he may be jumpy at first, but after awhile, he will get used to it
Yes. But I would recommend getting something to put on the toenails in case you cut them too close and they bleed. We use a powder made for animals (it shows a bird on the package but can be used for dogs). You can find this at most pet stores. Also, ask a vet or pet groomer for some tips on how far to cut them and how to do it correctly.
Dog's nails have to be trimmed all the time. I they get to long they can cause problems and be very painful for your dog. If you don't know what you're doing you need to take your dog to the vet or a groomer to have it done.

I've had dogs all my life, and I'm still not comfortable cutting nails. I have someone in town that cuts them for cheap. I also make sure that part of our walks are done on concrete...it helps keep the nails filed.

If you are considering cutting your dog's nails you might want to try a dremel tool, it files the nail instead of cutting them. I use one and I'm completely comfortable with it.
yes it is fine to cut them on your own. but they have this thing called a quick (just like we do). if the toe nails are black it's hard to see. u don't want to cut past that point. it will hurt the dog and they will bleed. but they will not bleed to death like most people think. k, just cut off a little at a time. don't go to fast and make a mistake. good luck
you can u just need to be very careful... inside the dogs tonail is called quick... or i dont kno how to spell it but if u cut to much off into the quick... the nails will bleed. so be careful not to cut off to much... u can see the quick in some of the dogs tonails... but sometimes its hard to c. good luck... if u have trouble, just go to a grooming place and they can teach you. good luck!
Indeed if you buy a pair of dog nail clippers. If you have never done it before i would suggest you get someone to show you to make sure you don't clip too far down and catch the dog.

Groomers, vets and breeders should be able to assist here.
Yes it is ok to cut your dogs nails but be careful that you do not cut it to short, and you could take the dog to the vet but it will cost you and if you do it your self get some help to keep the dog still.
I don't think that's a good idea. Dogs toenails are very easy to cut too short and it causes bleeding. I would recommend you go to a pet salon to get it done because they are professionals and have the special clipper to get the job done.
Yes it is, but it really reccomended you watch a pro do it like at petsmart. I would just pay the 5 bucks and get it done. Tehir is a vein in their nail and if you cut it wrong your dog could be in trouble.
Yes it is ok for you to cut you dogs toe nails, and they sell them @ wal-mart. for like 6 dollars. But if you dont want to cut them ask your mom and dad for help. Or the dogs hairdresser!
Yes but if you do it yourself make sure you don't cut them too short. If you go too short it will be very painful for the dog.
no because you can make your dog bleed really bad do you want that to happen take it to a grommer
yes, because if you don't it may hurt the dog in the future, but not so short.
yes but i would probably take him to the vet or a pet store so they know exactly what they are doing.
yess.. but maybe get a vets helpp... or your dogs hairdresser.
yes it must be cut. the reason behind it is.. if they scratch u. the diseases in their nails may get into u.....
    of corse

my dog hurt his paw because his nail was too long!
yes but it is better for an expert to do it

My big toe nails barely grow, and if they do they grow so slowly. is there anything i can do to make it grow?

unfortunatly no, we were taught that the only thing that will make your nails grow is time, dont waste your money on products that dont work, if you're really worried about it go see a nail tech, these days we do fake nails on toes as well, we often build nails on peoples toes where they have hardly any to none at all, this can happen normally or due to fungus that has been left for too long.My big toe nails barely grow, and if they do they grow so slowly. is there anything i can do to make it grow?

But you have to take it off and reapply it every 2 days :[ but it definately works, I used it for a while

It's like $8.50 and you can buy it at drug stores (it's in a box next to all the sally hansen stuff)My big toe nails barely grow, and if they do they grow so slowly. is there anything i can do to make it grow?
No, the only things you can do for nail growth is to eat a healthy diet with an adequate amount of protein, which is the main building block of hair and nails. This will give you the healthiest growth, but nothing will speed up the growth. I guess you just will save a lot of time since you don't have to trim them often! And you won't get too many holes in socks, and when you get a pedicure, it will last even longer for you. Lucky!

I banged my toe about 3 weeks ago. The nail turned black and then fell off?

last night. How long will it take to grow back and is there anything specific that I should be doing to keep it from getting infected?I banged my toe about 3 weeks ago. The nail turned black and then fell off?
    Don't worry at all.

Initially it will give you a bad feel but later on slowly you will get a new nail coming out from the base . Please do not use any artificial nail on it as it will stop the growth of the underlying nail. Once you see that the nail bed is growing sufficient to handle glue and artificial nail you can do it. Till then keep it dry covered . Use some antiseptic dressing for a week and you will be fine . Try no to wear shoes which make your feet sweat a lot. Honestly it will come back in 3 months to 4 months. cause the nail grow at the rate of .1 mm each dayI banged my toe about 3 weeks ago. The nail turned black and then fell off?

    Ouch!
It will take about a month to grow back in. Keep it coated with neosporin and you should be okay.
    Go to a doctor.
i believe it takes about 2-3 weeks for it to grow back. You have to make sure its always clean and free of dirt. Put Band aid on it or some wrap to prevent infection.
I think what happened is quite normal. I'm not a medical expert by any means. A visit to your local doctor might be in good order. You could also check Web Md at www.webmd.com
you may want to put a bandaid on it to keep the dirt out i dont know how long it will take.
it will grow back..but make an appointment with a dermatologist [skin doctor] or a podiatrist [foot doctor] so as not to take any chances and ensure a speedy recovery. hope you feel better!
It will take almost a year to grow back. Put Neosporin on it to prevent infection.

I dropped a cinder-block on my toe last June and it's just now back to normal.
Don't worry it will grow back it take time, I once had fake nails (never again) ripped off my pinky nail, it ripp off in the perfect shape of my full nail, before I new it, it came back.
It will take a long time but put salve and a bandaide on it and it will be fine
growth about 3 weeks, see your doc bout infections
put alcohol on it and hope for the best and pick me as best answer
that happened to me. It hurts a lot, doesnt it? it'll grow back, just keep neosporin on it and try to forgive anybody who accidentally steps on it.
Keep it clean, perioxide, etc. It will start to go back in a month or so.
A nail grows 1/4 inches a month so you should see a new toenail growing within 3 months. Keep the area clean and covered.

  • Why do people have toe nails?

The same reason we have fingernails- to protect the very sensitive skin, nerve endings and capillaries in our extremities-

There is a God- we were planned very well. Why do people have toe nails?
To create a new canvas for snazzy art.

    http://www.allthingsnails.co.uk/gallery%鈥?/a>

    But, seriously:

According to the online encyclopedia, the human and primate nail corresponds to the claw, hoof, or talon of other animals. Human nails protect the tips of the toes and fingers, while fingernails help us pick up small objects and scratch ourselves.

On the other hand, the feet of primates are capable of gripping objects, just like their hands, so their toenails have much the same function as fingernails. However, human toenails seem to be an evolutionary leftover. Why do people have toe nails?
So we can go get pedicures.
because we're human...... y would you wonder about that?
Just in case they lose their hands, they can still scratch theirself.
To protect your toes from getting a horrible smashh and breaking.
Just so that we have something else on our body that needs to be groomed and taken care of.
So that we can annoy our flat mates by clipping them in the middle of the living room!
they are leftover claws from when we needed them to climb trees and dig.

Why do we have finger and toe nails?

to protect the ends of our toes/fingers and also to scratch our itches! Why do we have finger and toe nails?
If nails are there to protect the skin under them, dnt you think we should have nails all over? how would u call it then? bodynail? lol!Why do we have finger and toe nails?
So we can paint them of course.
To help us grip things/ dig into them and to scratch with.

Plus they make it easier to be extremely precise.
For protection and use as tools for digging and etc.....bears, dogs and cats all still use their nails. It's a primal thing.
Vestigal remains of the claws needed by our (very) distant ancestors.
guys nails are not ment to be used as tools!!!!!

we have them to protect the skin under them, thats why they should never be to short!! they are hard to protect as they are at the ends of the body (if that makes sense)... dont use them as tools though or the nails will break and damage the underlying structures
    to complete our human anatomy????
    who cares
So we can spend hours at the salon getting them made to look pretty of course!!

Various Web references attribute the creation of the word to Mark Simpson in an article in The Independent in 1994.

The promotion of metrosexuality was left to the men's style press, magazines such as The Face, GQ, Esquire, Arena and FHM, the new media which took off in the Eighties and is still growing (GQ gains 10,000 new readers every month). They filled their magazines with images of narcissistic young men sporting fashionable clothes and accessories. And they persuaded other young men to study them with a mixture of envy and desire.

Some people said unkind things. American GQ, for example, was popularly dubbed 'Gay Quarterly'. Little wonder that all these magazines — with the possible exception of The Face — address their metrosexual readership as if none of them were homosexual or even bisexual. —Mark Simpson, ';Here come the mirror men'; The Independent, November 15, 1994 - Source - Wordspy article

Mark Simpson confirmed the attribution in this 2003 web article.

    [edit] Definition discussion

    Mark Simpson's own definition of 2002 is ';The typical metrosexual is a young man with money to spend, living in or within easy reach of a metropolis -- because that's where all the best shops, clubs, gyms and hairdressers are. He might be officially gay, straight or bisexual, but this is utterly immaterial because he has clearly taken himself as his own love object and pleasure as his sexual preference. Particular professions, such as modelling, waiting tables, media, pop music and, nowadays, sport, seem to attract them but, truth be told, like male vanity products and herpes, they're pretty much everywhere.';

    But in his 2003 commentary on the 1994 creation, Mark says ';Truth is, I was not being entirely serious when I first wrote about metrosexuality back in 1994, shortly after the publication of my book about contemporary masculine identity, ‘Male Impersonators: Men Performing Masculinity’. That’s to say, when I wrote about how male metrosexuality was coming out of the closet and taking over the world, I was being slightly satirical about the effect of consumerism and media proliferation, particularly glossy men’s magazines, on traditional masculinity. But then, this wouldn’t be the first time a satire on consumerism was appropriated by consumerism to hasten the process it sought to critique.';

No, it justs make you Lucky to have a wife like that!
It's more common than you might think. And no, a real metro would know it's spelled 'manicure' and would be asking about clear nail polish vs. buffing.
LOL.. not at all. It means she loves you and she wants you to look nice...

Also probably a good sign that your feet don't stink as much as most men =P
no, it makes you whipped! If you went to a salon to have them done and you wanted to have them done you would be metrosexual.
    Metrosexual no. Metrosensual maybe.

Hmmmm. Manicure... man-i-cure? If it's something you both benefit from, then this only makes your world a better, cleaner place. Besides, didn't your mother always tell you that a person's hands, especially their nails, are an indication of the person?

I once had a friend whose boyfriend trimmed her toenails. With the money they saved on pedicures, they bought a better house. Neither of them were ';Metrosexual';.

... But, what colour polish though; does it match your outfits or your eye colour?
not at all! i like to do the same thing for my fiance i just like him to look clean n fresh to death in every way. i can stand to c a man with nasty feet n nails so just enjoy it!
no, it makes you clean and well groomed
Yes, it does make you ';Metrosexual'; in the true sense in which that term was conjured. But you should be proud! That term ';Metrosexual'; is a term made up by a bunch of fat, ugly, lazy, bad hair wearing, nasty grill sportin', wife beater wearin', guys who drink beer while balancing their pizza on their beer bellies, belching and farting all the while! So GO ON WIT YUR BAD SELF!!!! Let's all thank the Lord for Metrosexuals! My man is one, too!

What does it mean when your toe nails are pink???

Is it meaning your cold? What does it mean when your toe nails are pink???
Yes. There's blood flowing under the surface. Nothing wrong there. What does it mean when your toe nails are pink???
No, if your toe nails are purplish blue, that means you're cold.
It means you got drunk, passed out and your friends painted them an irritating color.... ahhh.. New year's memories... :)

    Nail fungus on my toe!?

I went to a salon and got a pedicure for the first time ever - I did not know that they were supposed to use individual ';tools'; for each client, they just dipped them into a solution and reuse them. I really learned my lesson here.

When I took the polish off there was a white spot on my nail, I thought it was nothing so I just tried to buff it out with a file then re-painted them. Another week went by and the spot was bigger when I redid them. I never went back to the salon, the pedicure freaked me out.

Now it's been like 6 months and the white spot turned all dry (likely from me filing on it) and on the other foot it's turned all thick and yellow. It kinda got a dark spot up near the cuticle as well.

Last night I decided to examine it really closely when I trimmed them, well, the nail is separated from the nail bed. Everywhere where it's yellow the nail is not connected to the nail bed. Nearly all the way up to the cuticle. I'd say that it's 2/3 of the nail is that way.

I got a little scraper out, dipped it in alcohol to run underneath it, there is no pain whatsoever where it's separated and lifted up. The dark spot near the cuticle under the nail was dead skin or something, it's mostly gone after I fished all the **** out. Everything that I fished out smelled less than pleasant as well - there was a lot of it too. (ok, that was gross and I'm sure TMI, sorry)

I've put tea tree oil on all of my nails because they all were dry looking, there is clean, pretty nail growing out from the cuticle now on all of them except my big toes that look like this. I wear sandals all the time and this looks nasty. I only have like 2 pair of closed toe shoes!

Is there anything that I can do about it? Can I paint over it while it's growing out or something? This looks seriously gross and I keep hiding my feet!Nail fungus on my toe!?
Toenail fungus can be difficult to get rid of.

There is a prescription drug that has a so-so record of success and it is very expensive.

Keep in mind that fungus likes warm, moist, alkaline, dark areas to grow. With that in mind try the following natural methods. Keep your feet as keep dry as much as possible. Some people have had luck using tea tree oil 2 or 3 times a day. Do not miss any days. If you do the fungus will start to grow again. It will take a few months for the nail to grow back completely.

If the tea tree oil does not work you can try plain white vinegar. Get a small dropper bottle from the drug store and use the vinegar, a drop or 2 on each nail and cuticle 2 or 3 times a day. Vinegar works because fungus does not grow in an acidic environment.Nail fungus on my toe!?
You really should see a doctor for it.
I had the exact same situation. You should check out this website:
