Why is my dog biting his toe nails ... and licking his paws a lot?

Hi! :)

Most likely your dog is either bored or has allergies. What are you feeding? Sometimes they have fungal infections, I would have a vet check it out....Why is my dog biting his toe nails ... and licking his paws a lot?
It sounds like an allergy. What are you feeding him?

If the food your feeding him has any grains in it, I suggest switching him to either a homemade diet or a grain free kibble. some dogs are even allergic to the cooked, processed form of meat, but it is normally corn, wheat, soy, rice, etc. that cause an allergy.

Evo(naturapet.com) and orijen are two grain free kibbles I know of. Wellness also has one but I have never used it.

Lifes abundance is a good brand too. www.bigdogsporch.com can help you with finding grain free foods.

I actually feed raw and have had success with it. If you are interested, the website mentioned above along with the following websites can help you learn about it.

Not exactly what I agree with, but they are in the right direction and admit the truth about big pet food companies, pitcairn actually admits his education on nutrition was no more than a representative from a pet food company(most likely purina, iams, hills science diet, or pedigree.) telling him and his colleges about how good their products are.

His toenails need cut and they are causing discomfort when he walks which is why is is licking the paws and chewing the nails.
he might have some kind of foot infection or irritation

i would have the vet check him out

or some dogs lick their paws when they are bored but this doesn't sound like the case
Check your dog nails if they are overgrown they can cause pain and the dog will lick his feet.
i had a dachshund that would bite his claws all the time. he actually did a pretty good job of it
