In our area, places who give pedicures are closely inspected. They have to use certain chemicals in the foot baths and their instruments can only be used once and then autoclaved before using again. Even the towels have to be sterilized and the pedicurists have to wear disposable gloves--if it is like that at your pedicurist's, then it isn't likely that you are spreading a fungus to others or vice versa.

Here in Florida, toe fungus is very prevalent and can be contracted in a number of ways--and taking the medication for toe fungus is an option that some folks don't choose because of the possible side effects and the expense.

Some over the counter meds can help, but more importantly, you want to make an unhealthy environment for the fungus--so vinegar soaks for your toes may be enough to do that. It changes the chemistry of your foot enough that the fungus will eventually die--it takes between three and six months to see progress--and it also takes that long if you take the oral medication.

The main thing is to keep your toes clean and dry as much as possible and wear shoes that don't cause your feet to sweat. And, you want socks that wick away moisture, as well.

Good luck! How do i save my toe nails? they are flaking and aren't clear.?
Off the top of my head, I can tell you that drinking more water will definitely help, besides taking herbs. If a person has an skin or nail problems, it almost always indicates lack of water in the body.

Humans are supposed to drink 8 glasses (about half a gallon) of water daily to flush the impurities from the body. If the impurities aren't being expunged, then they come to the surface in on form or another to indicate the things that are going on inside the body.
It could be a fungus, but it could also be a bacterial infection. You'd have to see a doctor to figure out which one. If it turns out to be a fungus there are a couple of ways you can deal with it but it will probably take several months to clear up. Soak your feet in white vinegar for 15 minutes every night. The vinegar prevents fungus from growing so that as your toenail grows out it takes the fungus with it and you can just clip it off. You could also try filing your toenails until they are thin and then applying vicks vapor rub on them and wait 15 minutes for it to absorb. It does pretty much the same thing as the vinegar. Change your socks often. Don't wear shoes for too long. Walk barefoot as much as possible. Keep your toes as dry as possible. Blow dry your toes after you take a shower. Fungus can't grow in dry arid conditions so it could not keep infecting your nails.
Get a prescription. You're contagious if you have fungus. When you get a pedicure, you're risking giving it to everyone else. Also, walking on a gym floor or using a common shower could spread it. It is inconsiderate to knowingly have fungus and do things like get pedicures since you are probably giving it to others. Get a prescription and you will be fine. Also, try wearing breathable socks in the future and using a foot product to prevent fungus so that it doesn't come back.
Lamisil (terbinafine) is highly effective against toe nail fungus. It does have the potential for some dangerous side effects, most notably liver damage, and it does interact with some other medications. There are some paint-on products which the pharmacists with whom I work say are less effective on the whole. I personally would also be afraid to take terbinafine.
my husband is diebetic and his dr. told him to put vasoline on them at night. and you know what it helped his toenails now they look like new ones.
I think your pedicures may be causing your fungus. You should see a doctor to make sure you don't have a fungus or a bacterial infection. Dark colored nail polishes also stain the nail enamel so when you take off the coloring your nails will look dark and yellow. You should switch to lighter colors and try over the counter foot medication if you don't want to get hardcore prescription drugs.
