Brown toe nails- is it an infection?

My toe nails have turned brown and they are starting to crack. I'm too embarrassed to go to the doctors.

Can i just go to the drug store and buy a medicine without getting it checkout?Brown toe nails- is it an infection?
It doesn't sound familiar and it doesn't sound good, either. Don't be embarrassed to go to the doctor! That's why they're there! It's their job and, believe me, during their career they've seen much, much worse!Brown toe nails- is it an infection?
It is NOT impossible to get an infection around your nails. Your nail beds are susceptible to infections. This sounds like a fungus. You can get over the counters medications for a fungus, but it's not very safe to use any meds on something when it could be something else. (you could make it worse using anti fungal if it's not a fungus)

Go to your doctor and ask them...
First of all, nails are dead cells. It is clearly impossible to get an infection on dead cells. If you swim a lot, the chlorine can cause your nails to stain. If you are outside, or you don't wear shoes and socks, dirt may cause that. If you smoke, the ashes may cause that too.
i would go to the doctor. it's really nothing to be embarrassed about. i've had my boobs felt and shortly i have to go and have a rectal exam for an excretion problem! so it really is nothing to worry about. :)
Doctors have seen way worse than nasty toenails. Go to the doctor and they will fix the problem.
Bad circulation, diabetes? Check your blood sugar.
